1J-9 Charging System:
2) Measure the battery voltage using the multi circuit
tester.
If the voltage reading is less than the 12 V (DC),
recharge the battery with a battery charger.
Recharging time
0.6 A for 5 to 10 hours or 3 A for 1 hour
CAUTION
!
Be careful not to permit the charging current
to exceed 3 A at any time.
3) After recharging, wait at least 30 minutes and then
measure the battery voltage using the multi circuit
tester.
If the battery voltage is less than 12.4 V, recharge
the battery again.
If the battery voltage is still less than 12.4 V after
recharging, replace the battery with a new one.
4) Install the battery to the motorcycle. Refer to “Battery
/ Battery Protector Removal and Installation”
(Page 1J-9).

Removal
1) Remove the seat. Refer to “Exterior Parts Removal
and Installation” in Section 9D (Page 9D-1).
2) Disconnect the battery (–) lead wire (1).
3) Disconnect the battery (+) lead wire (2).
NOTE
Be sure to disconnect the battery (–) lead
wire (1) first, then disconnect the battery (+)
lead wire (2).
4) Remove the battery (3).
5) Remove the battery protector (4).
NOTE
Check the battery protector (4) for ware or
damage. If it is worn or damaged, replace it
with a new one.
Installation
Install the battery in the reverse order of removal.
Pay attention to following point:
CAUTION
!
Be sure to connect the battery (+) lead wire
first, then connect the battery (–) lead wire.
