1. Set the machine on a level, flat surface. The work area should be uncluttered, well-lit
and have adequate ventilation. Leave space of at least one meter all around the
machine to permit safe use, cleaning and maintenance. Position the machine so that
the power cord plug is easily accessible.
2. Confirm that the electrical requirements listed on the machine’s specifications plate
(voltage, frequency, etc.) are compatible with your electrical service. There is a
tolerance of ±10% for voltage and of ±2% for frequency. The K80v/K120v cutter
is a single voltage three-phase machine; it is not possible to change the motor’s
voltage.
The electrical power cord/plug typically has 5 wires (although some machine
configurations may require only 4 wires):
1 ground (bi-colored yellow and green).
3 phases (either 3 black wires or 1 black wire, 1 brown wire and 1 gray wire).
1 neutral (blue wire) for machines 380/400V, not for 208/220V ones.
The color-coding of the wires may vary depending on your country’s electrical
standards.
REMEMBER: The plug connected to the machine’s power cord must be suitable
for use with this machine and conform to local electrical standards.
3. Before plugging the machine to the electrical outlet, use the provided wrenches to
ensure that the knife grouping is properly tightened (fig. 4 in the DRAWINGS
section at the beginning of this manual). Use extreme caution and wear
protective gear (metal mesh gloves) when tightening the knife grouping; avoid
injury against the cutting head or knives.
4. Plug the machine to the electrical outlet and turn on the MAIN POWER SWITCH; the
control panel’s TEMPERATURE and RPM indicators should light up. (IMG. 6)
5. Do the following to make sure the knives DO NOT make contact with either the bowl
or knives lid as the cutting head turns:
a) With the knives lid open, press the red mushroom-shaped EMERGENCY STOP
button.
b) Turn the knives using a plastic bar that is long enough to reach the knives while
keeping you safely away from the blades. There must be a clearance of at least
2 to 3 mm between the knives edges and the bowl.
c) Close the knives lid and again turn the cutting head with the plastic bar to verify
that the knives DO NOT make contact with the knives lid.
6. VERY IMPORTANT! Follow these steps in order to verify that the knives and bowl
turn in the correct direction:
a) Disengage the red mushroom-shaped emergency stop button by turning it
slightly to the right.
b) Push the START button (no. 14 on the control panel graphic in the
DRAWINGS section at the beginning of this manual). The machine will power
on and the bowl should begin turning counterclockwise.
If the bowl turns in a clockwise direction, stop the machine immediately, unplug
it from the electrical outlet and have a qualified electrician exchange two of the
three phase wires at the power source/plug.
7. The machine is now ready to use.
Warning!
The machine should only be installed by
a qualified technician and in compliance
with all applicable national, regional and
local electrical and safety codes.
The electrical installation of the
workplace should be equipped with
power surge full protection (magneto
thermic circuit breaker) and leakage
(diferential), which must be adjusted to
the technical specifications of your
particular machine (see section 3
Technical Specifications).
Since Talsa K80v/K120v cutters can
potentially draw a great deal of electrical
current during heavy use, it is necessary
to install an auxiliary fuse board equipped
with magneto thermic and differential
residual current circuit breakers. We
recommend checking the differential
residual current circuit breaker every
month to ensure that it is functioning
properly; this can be done by pressing
the circuit breaker’s test button.
IF 5 WIRES ARE PRESENT, ALWAYS
CONNECT THE BLUE ONE AS NEUTRAL,
NEVER AS PHASE! An incorrect
connection could seriously damage the
machine’s electronic frequency converter
and other components.
