User Interface Screens
The typical user interface screen has a common look and
function. The numbers below highlight these common
features.
User Interface Screen Features
# Name Description
1 Screen caption
Descriptive title of the main
function or content of the screen.
2 Security icon
When visible, instrument security
is enabled, and user activity is
restricted to user security access.
3 Input field
Displays the name and value of a
field. White background signifies
that the user may touch the field to
edit the value displayed.
4 Help icon
When touched, displays context-
sensitive help for this particular
screen. This may involve detailed
descriptions and tips for the
screen.
5 Read-only field
When grayed, user can only view
the value of the field but cannot
edit it. A field may not be editable
by design or because of restricted
user access.
6 Screen tabs
Access to additional related
sections.
7 Toolbar icons
Access to tools or related screens.
These icons may also be grayed
out depending on security settings.
8 Exit/return Exit/return to previous screen.
