5.Thesteeringcircuitreliefvalvelocatedinthesteeringcontrolvalvecanbe
testedwiththepressuregaugeinstalledinthesamelocationasthesteering
cylindertest(step4)asfollows:
A.Starttheengineandrunitatlow-idlespeed.Checkforhydraulic-uid
leaksfromthetestconnectionsandcorrectbeforecontinuingthetest.
B.Settheenginespeedtoapproximately2,000rpm.Useaphototacto
checkthattheenginespeediscorrect.
IMPORTANT
Holdthesteeringwheelatfulllockonlylongenoughtogeta
systempressurereading.Holdingthesteeringwheelagainstthe
stopforanextendedperiodmaydamagethesteeringcontrol
valve.
C.Monitorthepressuregaugecarefullywhenturningthesteeringwheelfor
arighthandturn(clockwise)andholding.
D.Thesystempressureshouldbeapproximately120to125bar(1,740to
1812psi)asthereliefvalvelifts.
E.Shutofftheengineandrecordthetestresults.
6.Ifthespecicationisnotmet,replacethesteeringcontrolvalve;referto
SteeringControlValve(page5–112).
7.Afteryoucompletethetesting,shutofftheengine,andthenreleasehydraulic
systempressure;refertoReleasingPressurefromtheHydraulicSystem
(page5–5).Disconnectthepressuregauge,andconnectremovedhydraulic
hosetothesteeringcylinder.
8.Starttheengine,checkforhydraulic-uidleaks,repairanyleaksasrequired,
andllthehydraulictankwiththecorrectquantityofnewhydraulicuid
beforereturningthemachinetoservice.
