Supportthesteeringspindleassemblywhenremovingittoprevent
itfromfallingandcausingpersonalinjury.
10.Removethebolt(1),washer(2),cap(3)andretainingring(4)thatsecures
thespindle(27or33)intotherearaxle(6).Slideandremovethespindle
fromtherearaxle.
11.Locateandretrievethespacer(5)andthrustwasher(23)fromthespindle.
12.Cleanthespindle.Inspecttheshaftforwearordamageandreplacethe
spindle,iftheshaftiswornordamaged.
13.Cleanandinspectthethrustwasher(23)andangebushingsinsidetherear
axle.Replacethecomponentsthatarewornordamagedasnecessary;refer
toServicingtheRearAxle(page8–9).
InstallingtheSteeringSpindle
1.Applyalightcoatofgreasetothesteeringspindleshaft.
2.Installthethrustwasher(23)ontothesteeringspindleshaftandslidethe
spindle(27or33)upthroughtherearaxle(6).
3.Holdthespindleinplaceandinstallthespacer(5)andretainingring(4)
ontotheendofthesteeringspindle.Ensurethattheretainingringisfully
seatedintheshaftgroove.
4.Placethecap(3)ontopofthespindleandsecurewiththewasher(2)and
bolt(1).
5.Installtherearwheelmotor;refertoInstallingtheRearWheelMotor(page
5–99).
IMPORTANT
Beforeinstallingthetierodend,cleanthetapersofthesteering
spindleandtie-rodend.Ensurethatthetapersarefreefromgrease,
oil,rust,anddirt.Donotuseanti-seizelubricant,whenyouinstall
thetierodend.
