4. Lubricating Pump
4.1 General
The lubricating pumps are attached to the cylinder block (see Fig. 4). The
components of the lubricating pump can be replaced easily during operation, because
of the interchangeable modules.
The lubricating pumps have the parts that follow:
D Pump body (1, Fig. 4)
D Baseplate (2)
D 4/2-way solenoid valve (3)
D Accumulator (4).
An ALM-20 is installed to each lubricating pump (see paragraph 5).
Note: If a lubricating pump is damaged, the safety system transmits a
slow-down signal to decrease the speed of the engine. You must stop the
fuel injection of the related cylinder (see 05101, paragraph 1).
4.1.1 Baseplate
The baseplate (2) contains the primary components of the lubricating pump and the
routing of the servo oil pipes.
The shut-off valve (6) (servo oil inlet) is installed in the baseplate.
Note: Make sure that the shut-off valve (6) is fully open during usual operation.
If necessary, close the shut-off valve (6) to replace the 4/2-way solenoid valve (3) and
the documentation of the lubricating pump supplier.
4.1.2 Pump Body
The function of the pump body (1) is to increase the oil pressure and to supply the
servo oil.
To release the air in the lubricating pump, the vent screws (9) and (10) are installed in
the pump body (see paragraph 4.3).
4.1.3 4/2-way solenoid valve
The 4/2-way solenoid valve (3) is electronically controlled. The valve opens the
related oil bore in the pump body to operate the central piston.
4.1.4 Accumulator
The function of the accumulator (4) is to get a good performance of the lubricating
module and the lubricating system. The accumulator (4) makes sure that the servo oil
pressure stays almost constant and unwanted high pressure (pressure differences) is
decreased.
To do a check of the pressure in the accumulator (4), see the Maintenance Manual
72181.
4.1.5 ALM-20
The WECS9520 uses an ALM-20 to monitor the correct operation of each lubricating
pump. The ALM-20s activate the 4/2-way solenoid valves and sense the servo oil
pressure.
LEDs show the status of the lubricating pump and the control system (see
paragraph 5).
Note: It is possible to replace an ALM-20 during operation, or when the engine
has stopped (see 40024, paragraph 5 and 93621, paragraph 2).
