General Maintenance and Troubleshooting
3-12 SM 6495, Rev. 7, December 2008
3. Re-install the gearmotor per Section 3.2.6.
As a preventive maintenance measure, it is recommended that this procedure be followed every
200,000 gate mechanism cycles.
3.2.11. Installing the Power Down Module Upgrade Kit
WARNING
This procedure removes the crossing gate from service. Follow all of the
local and FRA regulations and safety requirements for temporarily
removing a crossing gate from service. (See Section 3 for additional
details.)
NOTE
Wiring diagrams for the 12-volt and 24-volt systems are presented in
Figure 2-2 through Figure 2-5.
1. Remove the gate mechanism from service and render it in a safe condition for maintenance.
2. Remove the spiral wrap and the wire ties from the wiring harness.
3. Remove the field wires from terminals 1C and 2C. Save the attaching hardware for later use.
4. Remove the four wires from the old power down module from terminal 1C, 2C, 3C, and 5B. Do
not reinstall the nuts and washers yet. The old module need not be removed, however, US&S
recommends that it be removed when a new power down module is installed. If the old module is
left in, the module wires should be cut as close to the module as possible and removed. The
location of the old power down module is shown in Figure 3-3.
5. Remove the remaining wires and hardware from terminal C1. Remove the terminal post from the
terminal block by removing the half nut and washer holding the post to the underside of the block.
6. Remove the terminal post from the terminal block and replace it with the longer terminal post from
the Power Down Upgrade Kit. Ensure that the head on the new longer terminal post is firmly
seated in the bottom of the terminal block. Secure the terminal post to the terminal block in the
same manner that the shorter post was secured.
7. Repeat Steps 5 and 6 for terminal post 2C.
8. Place new wire ties on the wire harness and reattach the spiral wrap removed in Step 2.
