Calibration Procedure for a Small Sample Adapter
Brookeldrecommendsatwostepcheck.First,verifythecalibrationoftherheometerusingthe
standardrheometerspindles(LV#1-3,RV#2-6,HA#2-6andHB#2-6orcone/platespindles)as
detailedinthisappendix.Second,verifythecalibrationoftherheometerusingtheSmallSample
Adapter.Theuseofanaccessorydevicemayincreasetheaccuracyofmeasurementassociated
withtheDV3T.
WhenaSmallSampleAdapterisused,thewaterjacketisconnectedtothewaterbathandthe
waterisstabilizedatthepropertemperature:
1) Puttheproperamountofviscositystandarduidintothesamplechamber.Theamount
varies with each spindle/chamber combination (refer to the Small Sample Adapter
instructionmanual).
2) Placethesamplechamberintothewaterjacket.
3) Putthespindleintothetestuidandattachtheextensionlink,couplingnutandfree
hangingspindle(ordirectlyattachthesolidshaftspindle)totheDV3T.
4) Allow30minutesfortheviscositystandard,samplechamberandspindletoreachtest
temperature.
5) MeasuretheviscosityandrecordtheRheometerreading.
Note: The spindle must rotate
at least ve (5) times before readings are taken.
Calibration Procedure for a Thermosel System

standardrheometerspindles(LV#1-3,RV#2-6,HA#2-6andHB#2-6orcone/platespindles)as
detailedinthisappendix.SecondverifythecalibrationoftherheometerusingtheThermosel.The
useofanaccessorydevicemayincreasetheaccuracyofmeasurementassociatedwiththeDV3T.
WhenaThermoselSystemisused, the controllerstabilizestheThermoContaineratthetest
temperature.
1) PuttheproperamountofHTviscositystandarduidintotheHT-2samplechamber.
Theamountvarieswiththespindleused(refertotheThermoselinstructionmanual).
2) PlacethesamplechamberintotheThermoContainer.
3) Putthespindleintothetestuidandattachtheextensionlink,couplingnutandfree
hangingspindle(ordirectlyattachthesolidshaftspindle)totheDV3T.
4) Allow30minutesfortheviscositystandard,samplechamberandspindletoreachtest
temperature.
5) MeasuretheviscosityandrecordtheRheometerreading.
