III.5 Temperature Control
TheDV3TRheometerprovidestheabilitytocontrolthetemperatureofaconnectedBrookeld
temperaturecontroldevicesuchastheThermosel(HT-106controller)andwaterbathswithSDor
APcontrollers(forexample:TC-550SD).TheThermoselorwaterbathcanthenbeusedtocontrol
thetemperatureofthesampleundertest.
TheDV3Tconnectstothetemperaturecontroldevicethroughadedicatedcommunicationcable.
TheThermoselrequirescableDVP-141.ThewaterbathsrequirecableDVP-207.Thesecables
areavailablefromBrookeld.
Whenconguredforcontrolofatemperaturecontroldevice,theDV3Tmayhavetwotemperature
inputs;
1)thetemperatureprobesuppliedwiththeDV3T(DVP-94Y,CPA-44PYZ,orSC4-13RPY)
and
2)thetemperatureprobesuppliedwiththetemperaturecontroldevice(waterbathorThermosel).
Onlyonetemperatureprobecanbeusedfordisplayoflivetemperature,control,anddatacollection.
SelecttheprobetobeusedintheTemperaturemenu(seeFigureIII-6).
TIP:EmbeddedtemperatureprobesusedwiththeCone/PlateandSmallSampleAdaptercanbe
usedforsetpointcontrolofawaterbath.Makingthisselectioncanimprovethetemperature
controlofthesamplebyoffsettingthetemperaturebathtoaccountforanyheatlossin
thetubingorwaterjacket.Tousetheembeddedtemperatureprobe,selectProbeinthe
Temperaturemenu.
TemperaturecontrolmustbeinitiatedeachtimetheDV3Tispoweredon.Besurethatthetemperature
controldeviceispoweredonpriortoinitiatingcommunication.ChoseDeviceSetupintheSettings
menu.ChoseTemperatureandyouwillbepresentedwiththeTemperaturemenu(seeFigureIII-6).
