Appendix E - Spindle Entry Codes and Range Coecients
The range coefcient is a convenient tool for quickly determining the maximum viscosity
that can be measured with a specic spindle/speed combination. Identify the spindle in
use and the torque range (LV, RV, HA, HB) of the Viscometer/Rheometer. Look up the
Range Coefcient in the following table. Divide the Range Coefcient by the spindle
speed to determine the maximum viscosity in centipoise that can be measured.
E.g. RV Viscometer with RV3 spindle: Range Coefcient is 100,000. At 50 RPM, the
maximum viscosity that can be measured is 100,000/50 or 2,000 cP.
The Entry Code is the two digit number used to identify the spindle in use when operating
a standard digital Viscometer/Rheometer.
