What does it tell you?
TheCassonmodelprovidesparameterssimilartothatoftheBinghammodel.However,unlike
theBinghammodel,itwasdevelopedformaterialsthatexhibitnon-Newtonianowafteryielding.

When should you use it?
TheCassonmodelshouldbeusedwithnon-Newtonianmaterialsthathaveayieldstressandthat
donotexhibita“Newtonian-like”behavioroncetheybegintoow.Thismodelismostsuitable
foruidsthatexhibitPseudoplasticorshearthinning,owbehaviorafteryielding.
Theseuidshaveanon-linearowcurve.Thepointatwhichitcrossesthey-axisistheproduct’s
yieldstress(τ

).Toprotectthepointatwhichthecurvewillintersectwiththey-axis,theCasson
modellinearizesorstraightenstheplotbytakingthesquarerootofthedata.Toensureaccurate
extrapolationtoyieldstressitisbesttotakesomedataatlowshearrates.
