102 TYPE R Radio Production System AoIP Network Examples
DESIGNING AN AOIP/AES67 NETWORK
Type R AoIP/AES67 network examples
The design of an AoIP/AES67 network will depend on the number of console Cores and IO Boxes the user wishes to connect to the
network.
The following examples are provided to show the recommended connectivity for Type R networked systems from a small single Core
system to larger multiple Core systems with Core redundancy.
These network example show the AoIP/AES67 connectivity, for connecting surface panels to the Core, please refer to the Surface
Panel Layout Examples.
Recommended third party equipment.
The following examples are based upon the use of the following third-party switches and clock;
1. Artel Quarra “1G” - 10 port (8+2), PTPv2/AES67 switch (Calrec part number 491-270)
- 8 x 1Gbps RJ45.
- 2 x SFP slots that can accept 1Gbps or 2.5Gbps interfaces.
Note that the use of the 2 x SFP slots will require additional SFP interfaces which are not supplied with the switch.
2. Cisco SG350-10-K9 – 10 port (8+2) switch (Calrec part number 491-267)
- 8 x 1Gbps RJ45.
- 2 x Combo RJ45/SFP 1Gbps slots that can accept 1Gbps interfaces.
Note that the use of the 2 x SFP slots will require additional SFP interfaces which are not supplied with the switch.
3. Sonifex AVN-GMCS IEEE1588 PTP Grandmaster Clock with GPS Receiver (Calrec part number 491-268)
4. All cabling shown is via RJ45 Cat5e shielded twisted pair (STP) cables.
Cisco and Artel Switch Management Settings for AoIP / AES67 Networks
Note: Both the Cisco switch and the Artel ARG Quarra switch should have their Green Ethernet power saving properties disabled this
is carried out as shown here:- “5. Configure Network Switches & Devices” on page 17 of this manual.
Cisco and Artel Switch and Network Configuration for AoIP / AES67 Networks
Below are shown some useful links for AoIP / AES67 network configuration, if using a Cisco SG350 switch for AoIP (which are only
recommended for very small systems) then please refer to the Cisco Auto Configuration guides or Cisco Manual Configuration guides.
These can be found at https://calrec.com/resources/
For larger PTP based audio networking using Artel ARG Quarra switches please refer to the Artel links below:

* In order to simplify configuration, a text based example configuration file can be uploaded for both the Cisco and Artel ARG
Quarra Switches for use with AoIP/AES67 Network devices. These can be found at https://calrec.com/resources/
The configuration files both allow the switch to operate in the 192.168.30/24 for Primary AoIP port and 192.168.31/24 Secondary
AoIP port address ranges and can be adapted as required.
