Choose a Locaon
A Tempest BaseStaon mounted in an equipment rack with oponal cables and mounng hardware.
Choosing a locaon for your Tempest BaseStaon and the associated antenna is one of the most important factors to
ensure proper system operaon and achieve maximum operaonal range. As covered in the
General Informaon and Theory
of Operaon secon of this manual, Tempest is a radio system, broadcasng and receiving RF signals that can be greatly
aected by physical and electromagnec barriers.
Following the guidelines below for selecng a suitable BaseStaon and Antenna locaon will help to ensure that your
system operates properly and achieves the maximum possible operaonal range.
See the Antenna Conguraon secon of this manual for details about recommended cable type and other important
informaon about connecng antennas to the Tempest BaseStaon.
BaseStaon Locaon
The locaon of the BaseStaon is important, but it is the locaon of the antenna that will insure maximum system
performance and operaonal range. Whenever possible locate the BaseStaon in close proximity to the desired coverage
area. If this is not possible consider using the oponal Remote Transceiver to achieve opmal antenna posioning. It is
not recommended to use RF coaxial cable runs longer than 25 feet to remote the antenna as this will degrade system
performance and operaonal range.
The BaseStaon must have a source of electric power available. This can be either AC or baery (DC) power.
The front panel of the BaseStaon must be accessible for conguraon.
The front panel may be used as a communicaon portal.
The rear panel may be accessed for making wired system connecons.
The Tempest BaseStaon should be in a locaon that has adequate venlaon and is not subject to extreme
temperatures and humidity.
Avoid areas subject to water or rain.
Always use a stable and secure plaorm or rack mount system.
