Route Policy (also well known as PBR, policy-based routing) is a feature where you may
need to get a strategy for routing. The packets will be directed to the specified interface if they
match one of the policies. You can setup route policies in various reasons such as load balance,
security, routing decision, and etc.
Through protocol, IP address, port number and interface configuration, Route Policy can be
used to configure any routing rules to fit actual request. In general, Route Policy can easily
reach the following purposes:
Load Balance
You may manually create polices to balance the traffic across network interface.
Specify Interface
Through dedicated interface (WAN/LAN/VPN), the data can be sent from the source IP
to the destination IP.
Address Mapping.
Allows you specify the outgoing WAN IP address (es) for an internal private IP address
or a range of internal private IP addresses.
Priority.
The router will determine which policy will be adopted for transmitting the packet
according to the priority of Static Route and Route Policy.
Failover to/Failback
Packets will be sent through another Interface or follow another Policy when the original
interface goes down (Failover to). Once the original interface resumes service
(Failback), the packets will be returned to it immediately.
Other routing.
Specify routing policy to determine the direction of the data transmission.
Note: For more detailed information about using policy route, refer to Support
>>FAQ/Application Notes on www.draytek.com.
