Starting the engine
Note
Follow the “High ambient temperature” procedure to
start the engine when it is warm.
Warning
Before starting the engine, become familiar with the
controls you will need to use when riding (page 10).
Regular ambient temperature
(10 °C/50 °F to 35 °C/95 °F):
1) Move the ignition key to ON (fig. 41). Make sure both
the green light N and the red light on the instrument
panel come on.
Important
The oil pressure light should go out a few seconds
after the engine has started (page 11).
Warning
The side stand must be fully up (horizontal position)
as its safety sensor prevents engine start when down.
Note
It is possible to start the engine with side stand down
and the gearbox in neutral. When starting the bike with a
gear engaged, pull the clutch lever (in this case the side
stand must be up).
2) Move the cold start lever (1) to (B) (fig. 42).
3) Check that the stop switch (2, fig. 43) is positioned to
(RUN), then press the starter button (3).
This model features servo-assisted starting.
Press and immediately release the start button (3) to use
the servo-assisted engine starting function.
When you press the button (3) the starter motor operates
automatically for a time determined by engine
temperature.
The system de-activates the starter motor as soon as the
engine starts.
If the engine fails to start, wait at least 2 seconds before
pressing the start button (3) again.
Let the engine start without using the throttle control.
