12-bit Smooth Shading
This enhancement updates the Image Smoothing command to allow the reproduction of smoother blends between colors when printing
objects filled with smooth shades. With Image Smoothing enabled, the feature will smooth transitions between steps to reduce visible
appearance of bands in the blend.
There are seven types of smooth shades; the most commonly used are radial and linear blends as well as gradient meshes. Smooth
shades are device independent and drawn with the optimal blend for a given resolution. They render more efficiently than when simulating
a blend with contours, and 12-bit Smooth Shading reduces the visible appearance of the steps that occur when blends cover large
distances by blending with 12-bit levels (1024) instead of 8-bit (256) levels of shading. The enhanced results are easily seen in blends that
cover large distances, with low contrast between beginning and ending colors.
Benefit:
Improves overall image quality of blends in smooth shades.
Specialty Colors Support
Specialty Color is a new feature in FS150 Pro systems that enables output device colorants beyond CMYK to be used for special effects.
This includes transparent coating for a gloss effect, white colorant for brighter output on matte paper, and various spot colors such as red
or metallics.
Specialty Colors are supported from the following user interfaces:
- ImageViewer — shows up as additional color plates or curves beyond CMYK.
- Job Properties in Fiery Driver and Command WorkStation — shows up as a new Specialty Color tab for job options specific to
the specialty colors.
- Fiery Driver — shows up in the Watermark tab (for clear), in the Installable Options tab and in Consumables.
- Command WorkStation — shows up in the Consumables area and in a Specialty Color section under the Resources tab.
The automatic generation of watermark features and ImageViewer support are unique to Fiery servers.
Benefits:
Printers create can higher-value output with higher profit margin.
Graphic designers can create documents that stand out from others, using special effects for highlighting.
Marketers can create eye-catching pieces that attract and hold consumers’ attention.
