11.3 Limit values for storage temperatures
Temperature is the "long-term indicator" of the machine load.
Excessive machine load is expressed in the increase in bearing temperature. Temperature
adjustm
ent to a fixed value will take place after the start-up phase, provided that the rolling
bearing is used in a manner consistent with its intended use according to the imposed design
guidelines. If the temperature changes without changing the speed or load,
or the inflow or
outflow of heat, this condition means inadequate lubrication. The load changes due to the
disturbance of the free
-wheel bearing function are identifiable due to the bearing temperature
change. Early detection of bearing damage due to inte
rruption of the grease layer or
disturbance of the bearing function is possible at continuous bearing temperature monitoring.
Long
-term damage due to fatigue and aging is not detectable by temperature monitoring.
Bearing temperature measurement is carried
out with an electronic temperature sensor
directly on the outer ring of the bearing.
