Connecting High-Speed Stacking Cables
Thestackofswitchescanbeconnectedinaringordaisychaintopology.Inaring
topologyalltheswitchesareconnected.Theonlydifferenceinthecableconnectionsina
daisychaintopologyisthatonecableisnotinstalled.
Upto8switchescanbestackedtogetherusing
high‐speedstackingcables.Youcanadd
switchesandreachuptoamaximumof384Ethernetportsperstack.Thehigh‐speed
stackingcablesallowtheentirestacktooperatewithasingleIPaddress.
Thehigh‐speedstackingcablesareoptionalitemsandmust beorderedseparately.The
C3G124
‐24PandC3G124‐48PsupportthreetypesofSecureStackstackingcables:
•C2CAB‐SHORTcabletoconnecttwoadjacentswitchesinthestack.Ifthestackisina
configurationwheretheadjacentswitchesaretoofarapartfortheSHORTcables,the
LONGcablecanbeusedfortheconnections.
•C2CAB‐
LONGcabletoconnectfromthetopswitchtothebottomswitchinthestack.
YouneedonlyoneC2CAB‐LONGcableperstack.
•C2CAB‐5Mcabletoconnectfromthetopswitchtothebottomswitchinthestack
whenthesetwoswitchesarephysicallylocatedinseperatemounting racks
and
requirealongercablereach.
Figure 3‐7showsanexampleofafour‐highstackconnectedinaringtopology.All
STACKDOWNandSTACKUPconnectorsareusedintheinstallation.Thehigh‐speed
stackingcable(1)
connectionsarefromtheSTACKDOWNconnector(2)ofoneswitchto
theSTACKUP(3)
connectorofthenextswitchupinthestack.Ahigh‐speedstacking
cableconnectionfromtheSTACKDOWN(4)
connectoroftheswitchatthetopofthe
stacktotheSTACKUP(5)
connectoratthebottomofthestackcompletesthering
connection.Inadaisychaintopology,the lastcableconnectionisnotmade.
