Cause What to do
The printer is in the sleep mode or deep sleep mode. Check if your printer is in sleep mode. See “Using Sleep Mode to Save
Energy” on page 59.
The printer recovers from the sleep mode or the deep sleep mode in
the following cases:
- When the printer receives a print job
- For AL-M320DN/AL-M310DN, when the Wakeup/Sleep button is
pressed
- For AL-M220DN, when any button on the control panel is pressed
Note:
With AL-M320DN and AL-M310DN, the sleep status can also be
shown by a flashing Ready light. This makes the status easier to
notice.

The printer is in the power off mode (the Wakeup/
Sleep button blinks for AL-M320DN/AL-M310DN or all
lights are off for AL-M220DN).
Turn on the printer by pressing the power switch. For AL-M320DN/
AL-M310DN, pressing the Wakeup/Sleep button also makes the
printer available for printing.
To not enter the power off mode, access Energy Saver Menu, and
set both Power Off if Inactive and Power Off If
Disconnected to Off.
The printer turns off automatically
Cause What to do
The printer is in the power off mode (the Wakeup/
Sleep button lights for AL-M320DN/AL-M310DN or all
lights are off for AL-M220DN).
To not enter the power off mode, access Energy Saver Menu, and
set both Power Off if Inactive and Power Off If
Disconnected to Off.
The Printer does not turn off
Cause What to do
The printer is in the power off mode (the Wakeup/
Sleep button lights for AL-M320DN/AL-M310DN or all
lights are off for AL-M220DN).
Wait for a while. The printer turns off in approximately ten seconds.
The power switch is pressed while the printer is in deep
sleep mode.
Wait for a while. The printer turns off in approximately ten seconds.
Note:
With AL-M320DN and AL-M310DN, the sleep status can also be
shown by a flashing Ready light. This makes the status easier to
notice.
