emulation
The oper
ation of a storage system to emulate the characteristics of a dierent storage system. For
de
vice emulation, the mainframe host recognizes the logical devices on the storage system as 3390-
x devices. For controller emulation, the mainframe host recognizes the control units (CUs) on the
storage system as 2105 or 2107 controllers.
The storage system operates the same as the storage system being emulated.
emulation group
A set of device emulation types that can be intermixed within a RAID group and treated as a group.
external application
A software module that is used by a storage system but runs on a separate platform.
external volume
A logical volume whose data resides on drives that are physically located outside the Hitachi storage
system.
