II. Preparing Ethernet cable
The following figure illustrates how to use Category 5 twisted pair to prepare the
Ethernet cable with a RJ-45 connector. The category 5 twisted pair is composed of 8
cores, identified with the colored coatings of the cores. Usually we use monotint and
monotint with white color as a pair, or we use color dots as identifiers. The former is
used in the following example.

The following two figures illustrate the two connection methods: straight-through cable
and crossover network cable, which should be selected depending on actual
requirement. “SIDE1” and “SIDE2” in the figures represent both ends of the network
cable. See the following figure.
