Machine noise level
Noisecancausehearingdamage and represents one of the problems dealt with
by many countries by adopting their own regulations. In accordance with the EEC
Machine Directive no. 98/37/CE we list the standards that specify noise levels for
machine tools. This chapter publishes the noise levels produced by the DM 8
during its various operating phases and the methods used for measuring these
levels. The Italian standard relating to this aspect is D.M. no. 277/91, drawn
from EEC Directives no. 80/1107EEC, 82/605/EEC, 83/477/EEC, 86/188/EEC
and 88/642 /EEC.
Noise level measurement
Noise l evels are measured using an instrument known as an Integrator noise---
meter, which registers the equivalent continuous acoustic pressure level at the
work station.
The damage caused by noise depends on three parameters: level, frequency and
duration. The Leq equivalent level concept combines the three parameters and
supplies one overall indication. The L
eq
is based on the principle of equal energy,
and represents the continuous stationary level containing the same amount of
energy, expressed in dBA, as the real fluctuating level over the same time period.
