Apply Lawn-Boy
"AX"
grease to groove in
dust cover and install dust cover to axle shaft.
Install thick washer
(0.060)
and thick retaining
ring to axle shaft.
Install thin washer
(0.030)
on axle shaft.
Apply light coat of
Lawn-Boy
oil
in keyway.
(do
not grease)
and place spring and key into key-
way. Push down on key and slide
"L"
(left) or
"R"
(right) pinion gear onto axle shaft. Install thin re-
taining ring to secure pinion gear to axle shaft.
NOTE:
Use care not to over stretch retaining
rings.
Rotate pinion gears on axle shaft to distribute
lubrication. Listen for pawl "click" when rotating
forward, in direction of mower movement and
feel pawl lock up when rotated rearward.
NOTE:
If "click" and lock up are not present
with proper rotation direction check position
of
pinion gear installation. Gear marked
L
on left
side and gear marked on the right side of axle
shaft.
Apply liberal amount of Lawn-Boy
"AX"
grease
to rear wheel gear, mounting bolts and felt
seals. Install rear wheel to height adjust
bracket.
Lubricate front wheel mounting bolts and felt
seals with Lawn-Boy
"AX"
grease.
Torque wheel mounting bolt to
245
In.-lbs.

NOTE:
Toprevent distorting rear height
adkist levers, tighten wheel mounting bolt with
height adjust lever rotated towards rear of
mower housing and locating pin on lever re-
moved from slot in height adjust plate.
Apply Lawn-Boy
"AX"
grease to zerk on rear
wheels and height adjust brackets. Rotate
wheels to distribute grease evenly during
appli-
cation.
NOTE:
Aftergreasing observe inboard height
adjuster bearing to make certain hydraulic
pressure
has
not pushed bearing out.
