Gen 3 Site Controller System Manual Chapter 4 Installation
Intercabling Connections
ESF Framing:
iDEN requires ESF framing to operate. Intermediate network elements
may be configured to automatically switch between SF and ESF framing.
This process delays circuit restoration, and is difficult to detect without
monitoring using appropriate test equipment. The Smartjack should be set
up for ESF framing.
Loop/Thru Powering
By passing 48VDC power over the span, this Smartjack option allows the
interface to provide (through) 48VDC to customer equipment. The option
is set to “loop” if the customer equipment requires a dry contact that
terminates the span line power in the Smartjack. Because iDEN does not
support 48 VDC on the line, this option must be set to “loop.
The site controller automatically powers the network interface. 48VDC
power need not come from the Smartjack.
