7.15 Oil Filtration / Cooling
7.15.1 Oil dipstick — Marking
Preconditions
Engine is stopped and starting disabled.
MTU Fluids and Lubricants Specifications (A001061/..) are available.
Special tools, Material, Spare parts
Designation / Use Part No. Qty.
Engine oil
Oil dipstick
(→ Spare Parts Catalog)
WARNING
Engine oil is hot.
Engine oil can contain combustion residues which are harmful to health.
Risk of injury and poisoning!
Allow the engine to cool to below 50 °C before beginning work.
Wear protective clothing, protective gloves, and safety glasses / facial protection.
Avoid contact with skin.
Do not inhale oil vapor.
Note: In the case of new engines and spare parts, oil dipsticks are delivered without marks.
Marking oil dipstick
1. Draw-off or drain engine oil completely from oil pan.
2. Pull out oil dipstick.
3. Fill with minimum quantity of oil (→ engine data).
4. Insert oil dipstick and withdraw it again.
5. Mark a “Min.” notch on the oil dipstick. Max. notch depth 1 mm.
6. Shorten oil dipstick as necessary.
7. Fill with maximum quantity of oil (→ engine data).
8. Insert oil dipstick and withdraw it again.
9. Mark a “Max.” notch on the oil dipstick. Max. notch depth 1 mm.
