Chapter 6 Reprocessing, Storage, and Disposal
HIGH FLOW INSUFFLATION UNIT UHI-4
With the cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization methods
stated in this instruction manual, prions, which are the
pathogenic agent of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) cannot
be destroyed or inactivated. When using this instrument on a
patient with CJD or variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease
(vCJD), be sure to use this product for such patient only
and/or immediately dispose of this product after use in an
appropriate manner. For methods to handle CJD/vCJD,
please follow the respective guidelines in your country.
This instrument may not be durable, or may not have
sufficient durability against the respective methods stated in
the guidelines of each country for removing or inactivating
prions. If reprocessing methods not stated in this instruction
manual are performed, Olympus cannot guarantee the
effectiveness, safety and durability of this instrument. Be sure
to confirm that there is no irregularity before use, and use
under responsibility of a physician. Do not use if any
irregularity is observed.
Do not apply strong force to the tube during the reprocess to
prevent damage.
The filter is a single-use device. Do not reuse. Discard the
filter after each use.
Do not apply spray-type medical agents directly to the High
Flow Insufflation Unit and Smoke Evacuation Foot Switch.
Medical agents may enter the High Flow Insufflation Unit and
Smoke Evacuation Foot Switch through the ventilation grills
and/or the gaps and may cause a fire and/or equipment
damage.
Use a surface disinfectant cleaner approved by your national
or local regulatory agencies. Furthermore, surface
disinfectant cleaner manufacturers should use antiseptic
solution that allows them to apply to medical products. Using
an unauthorized surface disinfectant cleaner may result in
insufficient disinfecting effect.
As for the use of chemicals, be sure to follow instructions of
chemicals manufacturer. Failure to follow manufacturer’s
instructions may result in insufficient disinfecting effects.
