Chapter 5 Operation
HIGH FLOW INSUFFLATION UNIT UHI-4
To avoid an excessive pressure in the lumen, Olympus
recommends to set the relief mode of this instrument to ON
and attach a filter before use.
1. Ensure that the tubes are connected properly as described in Section 3.9,
“Connecting the insufflation tube and suction tube” on page 58.
2. Press the insufflation switch to start insufflation.
The insufflation continues until the cavity pressure reaches the set value.
The gas flow rate decreases as the cavity pressure approaches the set
value, and the insufflation eventually pauses automatically when the set
value is reached. If the cavity pressure drops from the set value, insufflation
resumes automatically to maintain the pressure. While this operation is
activated, the user can perform the operations described in Sections 5.4,
“Setting the cavity pressure”, 5.5, “Setting the flow rate”, 5.6, “Setting the
smoke evacuation mode” and 5.7, “Switching the display mode”.
3. Press the insufflation switch to stop the insufflation.
4. To restart insufflation after step 3, press the insufflation switch again.
5.9 Smoke evacuation system/function
When this instrument is used in combination with the Olympus MAJ-1939 foot
switch, pressing the appropriate switch allows this instrument to execute
insufflation into and suction from the cavity simultaneously to exhaust and
remove the generated smoke and mist while maintaining the cavity pressure
constant.
• Always connect to a suction pump with a capacity of at least
40 L/min (at 0C, 101.3 kPa) and adjust to
–400 to –300 mmHg.
• The cavity pressure may become unable to be maintained
depending on the combination of equipment.
• If the patient is a child whose cavity volume is small, the
cavity pressure will fluctuate greatly. Do not use the smoke
evacuation function in such cases.
