Chapter 3 Installation and Connection
HIGH FLOW INSUFFLATION UNIT UHI-4
3.9 Connecting the insufflation tube and suction
tube
Tubes and connectors are supplied non-sterile. Clean,
disinfect, and sterilize the tube as described in Chapter 6,
“Reprocessing, Storage, and Disposal”.
To prevent cross-contamination from the backflow of body
fluids (e.g., blood) when the relief mode is activated, it is
necessary to use a disposable filter. The type of filter is PALL
OR01H (0.2 m, hydrophobic) or equivalent filters; contact
Olympus for further details. Even if the relief mode is not
activated, Olympus highly recommends the use of a
disposable filter.
Before removing the filter from the package, inspect the
package for damage. If the package has been previously
opened or torn, or if the end caps are loose, do not use the
filter. Remove the filter from its package and examine for
damage. If any damage or irregularity is found, do not use
the filter.
The external surfaces of the filter are not sterile. Because it
may cause the infectious disease, this filter should be
handled by nonsterile personnel only (e.g., circulating nurse).
The filter is a single-use device. Do not reuse. Insert a new
filter before each use.
Never attempt to alter the tube by cutting, splicing,
connecting several tubes, etc.
If the tube is damaged, replace it with a new tube.
Water drops remaining on/inside the tube may cause
damage to internal sensors (e.g., short circuit) or cause an
electric shock. Dry the tube thoroughly before use.
Disposable filter and disposable tube sets are optional items
which must be purchased separately. Please contact
Olympus for details.
