3.3 Connecting a CO
2
cylinder
Using other gases than medical grade CO
2
may result in fire,
poisoning, complications, etc. In addition, oil, impurities, etc.
may penetrate the interior of the UHI-4 and impede proper
CO
2
insufflation.
Always keep the gas cylinder in the upright position. Fasten
the cylinder to a wall or another stable structure to prevent it
from toppling. If the gas cylinder is placed horizontally or in
an inclined position, liquefied CO
2
may enter the insufflation
channel inside the UHI-4 and normal insufflation may
become impossible.
Only open the CO
2
cylinder valve after correctly connecting
the UHI-4 and the CO
2
cylinder. Opening the CO
2
cylinder
valve before correctly connecting the equipment will result in
liquid CO
2
flowing into the cylinder hose. The insufflation
channels inside the UHI-4 may freeze and prevent proper
CO
2
insufflation.
Never lubricate the equipment/hose connections with grease,
oil, etc. This could result in grease, oil, or other foreign matter
penetrating into the UHI-4, impeding proper operation and
preventing proper insufflation of CO
2
.
Olympus is not liable for any injury or damage due to
improper cylinder connection.
If a significant gas leak is noted from within the UHI-4,
terminate its use immediately and contact Olympus.
Always use a CO
2
cylinder that can supply the gas at up to
16.2 MPa. Otherwise, this device may fail.
To keep insufflation safer, if the cylinder hose is damaged,
replace it with a new one.
