Chapter 5 Operation
HIGH FLOW INSUFFLATION UNIT UHI-4
When using the automatic exhaust, also refer to the
instruction manual for the electrosurgical generator (UES-40,
ESG-400) or the ultrasonic generator (SonoSurg-G2,
USG-400). Incorrect usage or equipment connection may
compromise the functionality and performance of this feature
and could lead to equipment damage and/or patient injury.
If evacuation does not stop within 5 seconds (which is
variable in the user mode setting) after stopping the output of
the electrosurgical generator or the ultrasonic generator, the
device may be malfunctioning. Disconnect the
communication cable and contact Olympus.
Confirm that the electrosurgical generator or the ultrasonic
generator turned ON. Otherwise, the automatic smoke
evacuation system/function will not work.
In the following cases, the safety function disables the
automatic smoke evacuation system/function even during
output.
When the abdominal cavity pressure is below about
2 mmHg.
When the flow mode of the high flow insufflation unit is
“Low”
When the high flow insufflation unit is in the gas flow stop
mode.
When this instrument is in the excessive pressure caution
status.
When this instrument is in the tube obstruction caution
status.
When the insufflation tube is not connected to the patient
because of the need of inspection, etc.
When the flow resistance of the connected instrument is
large, or when the suction capacity of the wall suction
system is low, the smoke evacuation function may
become inoperative to maintain the safety of the
operation. Use an instrument with low flow resistance.
When the cavity pressure exceeds the set pressure by
5 mmHg, the excessive pressure warning lamp will light and
an alarm will sound.
