About this Manual
This manual describes the CS1W-PRM21 and CJ1W-PRM21 PROFIBUS-DP Master Units. It also
describes how to install and operate them. Both Units serve the same purpose: enable devices of var-
ious manufacturers to intercommunicate without making any special interface adaptations. They are
technically the same; they differ only in their physical dimensions and weight and the way they are con-
nected to the backplane.
Please read this manual carefully so that you understand the information provided before installing or
using the PROFIBUS-DP Master Unit. Start with the precautions in the following section. They
describe the operating environment and application safety measures which must be observed prior to
and when using the PROFIBUS-DP Master Unit.

Appendices
contain information supplementary to the information in the main body of the man-
ual. They are referred to in the various sections as required.
