Setting Up the System
Equipment Set Up
Location of Encoders
Now that we have completed the training process, it is
time to set the system up for actual use. If your system
is to be interfaced with the Property Management
System, the HT22 Main encoder must be placed in a
location that is within 50 cable feet of the PMS server.
This is due to the distance limitations of the RS232
communications protocol. The remaining encoders
should be placed beside the PMS terminals on the front
desk. Remember, all the management functions of the
system must be performed at the Main HT22 encoder,
so it should be strategically located.
The maximum cable distance from the first HT22
encoder to the last HT22 encoder is 4500 feet. The
encoders are connected in a “daisy chain”
configuration, meaning that a cable is run from encoder
1 to encoder 2, from encoder 2 to encoder 3 and so on.
These cables are typically purchased with the HT22
system and come in various lengths up to 100 feet.
