1. Fuel System
WARNING: OBSERVE ALL REQUIRED SAFETY PRECAUTIONS FOR HANDLING GASOLINE.
A. Filling
CA
UTION: FILL THE TANKS ONLY WITH FUEL SPECIFIED ON THE PLACARD ADJACENT TO
THE FILLER NECK.
The fuel tanks of each wing are filled through filler necks located on the forward slope of the wings.
Each wing tank holds a capacity of 25 U.S. gallons. Approximately 18 U.S. gallons is in the tank
when filled to the bottom of the filler neck.
B. Anti-icing Fuel Additive
Use of an anti-icing fuel additive conforming to MIL-L-27686 is permitted.
CA
UTION: ENSURE ADDITIVE IS DIRECTED INTO THE FLOWING FUEL STREAM. ADDITIVE
FLOW SHOULD START AFTER AND STOP BEFORE FUEL FLOW.
CAUTION: DO NOT LET CONCENTRATED ADDITIVE DIRECTLY CONTACT PAINTED
SURFACES OR INTERIOR SURFACES OF FUEL TANK.
CAUTION: SOME FUELS HAVE ANTI-ICING FUEL ADDITIVES PRE-BLENDED, SO NO
FURTHER BLENDING IS NECESSARY.
CAUTION: ANTI-ICING FUEL ADDITIVES MUST NOT BE USED AS A SUBSTITUTE FOR
PREFLIGHT DRAINING OF FUEL SYSTEM DRAINS.
The additive must:
— Be uniformly blended with fuel while refueling.
— Not exceed 0.15 percent by volume of the refueled quantity.
— Be blended not less than 0.10 percent by volume.
One and one-half liquid ounces per ten gallons of fuel falls in this range. Use blender supplied by
additive manufacturer. Use the above information, and carefully follow manufacturer’s mixing or
blending instructions.
C. Draining Moisture
CAUTION: WHEN DRAINING ANY AMOUNT OF FUEL, INSURE THAT NO FIRE HAZARD
EXISTS BEFORE STARTING ENGINE.
The fuel system should be drained daily prior to first flight and after refueling to avoid the
accumulation of water sediment. Each aluminum fuel tank is equipped with an individual quick drain
located at the lower inboard rear corner of the tank. A fuel strainer (gascolator) with a quick drain
valve (Figure 1, 12-20-00) is located on the lower left side of firewall. Drain fuel tanks and strainer
as follows:
(1) Drain each tank through the individual quick drain valve located at lower inboard rear corner of
tank. Be sure enough fuel has been drained that all water and sediment is removed.
(2) Place a container under fuel strainer drain. Drain fuel strainer by opening quick drain on
strainer.
(3) Check container for water and sediment. Properly dispose of contents.
