3. Induction Air Filter
Check induction air filter each 50 hour maintenance inspection. Clean or replace if found to be dirty.
Replace the filter each 100 hours time-in-service.
A. Removal
The induction air filter is located on the right side and midway in the engine compartment, and may
be removed by the following procedure:
(1) Open the cowling on the right side of the engine.
(2) Loosen the four quarter turn fasteners and separate the filter housing.
(3) Remove the filter element from its screen housing by removing the four screws.
B. Cleaning and Inspection
The wet-type polyurethane foam air filter must be inspected at least once every 50 hours. Under
extremely adverse operating conditions, it must be inspected more frequently. The maximum filter
life is 100 hours.
(1) Shake filter to remove dirt particles.
(2) Inspect filter for excessive dirt, punctures or ruptures. Do not hesitate to replace filter if
condition is at all suspect. Refer to Parts Catalog for appropriate filter part number.
(3) Inspect filter housing for damage and condition of seal.
(4) The filter housing may be cleaned by wiping with a clean cloth soaked in a suitable quick
drying type solvent. When housing is dry, reinstall filter.
C. Installation
(1) Install filter element in screen housing.
(2) Insure the retainer screen is properly positioned around the filter element according to
Figure 2.
(3) The one-piece retainer screen is mounted to the housing (lower cowling).
(4) Position in place and secure with four quarter turn fasteners.
4. Propeller
Inspect spinner, back plate and propeller surfaces for nicks, scratches, corrosion and cracks. Remove
minor nicks and scratches per instructions in 61-10-00. Paint face of each blade with a flat paint to retard
glare. Wipe surfaces with a light oil or wax to prevent corrosion.
Additional service information for the propeller may be found in Chapter 61.
5. Power Plant
Regularly check the engine compartment for oil and fuel leaks, chafing of lines, loose wires and
tightness of all parts. For cleaning of the engine compartment, refer to Section 12-00-00. Maintenance
instructions for the power plant may be found in Chapter 71 of this manual and in the appropriate
manufacturer’s manuals.
6. Winterization Plate
For winter operations there is a winterization plate kit available. When the ambient temperature is 50°F
or less the plate is installed on the inlet opening of the oil cooler plenum chamber.
