4. Measure the distance from the Magneto crankcase
mating surface to the main bearing using the same
method and record.
5. Subtract the thickness of the straightedge from the
measurement obtained in Step 4 and record.

6. Add the readings recorded in Step 3 and Step 5 and
record below.
Total Case Width______________________
7. Measure the width of the crankshaft at the bearing
seats with a micrometer or dial caliper and record.
Crankshaft Width______________________
8. Subtract the Crankshaft Width measured in Step 7
from the Total Case Width recorded in Step 6, and
record below.
Total End Play______________________
9. Subtract the thickness of the existing shim from the
result of Step 8 to determine if a different shim is
required. The result must be within the specified
range listed below.
Counter Balancer Shaft End Play Adjustment
1. Make sure all bearings are firmly seated in the
crankcase.
2. Measure the width of the counter balancer shaft at the
bearing seats with a dial caliper or micrometer, and
record reading.
3. Measure the distance from the Mag crankcase mating
surface to the balance shaft bearing using a dial
caliper and a straight edge. Subtract the thickness of
the straightedge and record.
Crankshaft End Play:
.008”-.016” (.02-.04 cm)
