3.5 GTR Production Settings
3.5.1 Temperature Control
1. The temperature is adjustable from 0 ° to 300° C.
2. The temperature set point can be changed by pressing the up / down arrows on the
temperature controllers.
3. A small red dash is illuminated when the temperature controller is outputting to the solid state
relays, which in turn controls the power to the heaters.
4. If there is a thermocouple failure the temperature controller will display "OPEN" and the output
light will go out.
The seal temperature is normally set at 120-220°C, although this will differ slightly for different
packaging materials as indicated by the film supplier’s specification. When adjusting the seal
temperature please take into consideration the total heat applied will depend both on this setting
and the dwell setting described below.
TOO LITTLE HEAT Will result in poor adhesion and a weak seal
TOO MUCH HEAT May distort the trays or burn the lidding material
UNEVEN HEAT May be caused by:-
1. Contamination on the seal profiles. These may be cleaned using a “Scotchbrite” abrasive cloth
or similar.
2. Defective heater element or thermocouple. Check seal face temperature using a hand held
thermometer.
3. Excessive draughts around the machine. Re-locate machine.
3.5.2 Seal Dwell Time
1. The range of the timer is adjustable from 0 to 3 seconds.
2. A small orange line indicates the set value.
3. Rotating the outside bezel can change the value.
4. The green LED indicates the timer has finished timing.
We suggest the seal dwell time is initially set at 1.5 seconds. When adjusting the dwell time
please take into consideration the total heat applied will depend both on this setting and the seal
temperature setting described above.
3.5.3 Film Feed Time
1. The range of the timer is adjustable from 0 to 3 seconds.
2. A small orange line indicates the set value.
3. Rotating the outside bezel can change the value.
4. The green LED indicates the timer has finished timing.
The film feed time determines the length of film that is fed under the seal tool during each seal
cycle. The optimum time setting results in the trailing edge on the skeletal waste cut out stopping
just short of the inner peaks of the top tool W shaped film hanger bar.
