6. ADJUSTMENT AND MAINTENANCE
These recommendations have been compiled as a guide to the maintenance requirements on
your GTR machine.
It has been assumed that your machine is operating in normal factory conditions - special
considerations may apply if the equipment is installed in hostile environments.
WARNING: -
Before removing any guards or carrying out any maintenance work on the machine, ensure the
electrical and air supplies are turned off and isolated elsewhere in accordance with your safe
maintenance procedure.
On the machine panel switch the mains isolator to 0.
On the compressed air supply set turn the isolator valve to the EXH position.
The modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) gas should be isolated by using the following
procedure:
1. The GTR machine MAP gas inlet valve should be turned off.
2. The MAP gas supply valve should be turned off; this valve could be on a cylinder or on the end
of a supply pipe.
3. The flexible supply pipe to the machine should be disconnected at the GTR machine MAP gas
inlet valve fitting; this should be done carefully as there will be residual pressure left in the pipe.
4. The GTR machine MAP gas inlet valve should be turned on slowly to release any gas left in the
gas flushing circuit.
Particular care should be taken whilst implementing the above procedure on the high oxygen
version of the GTR Machine, the Appendix B - Safe Use of Oxygen document advises the risks
involved.
The electrical and air supplies should then be locked out in accordance with your sites procedures.
Only suitably qualified personnel should carry out maintenance work.
If in doubt about any aspects of the maintenance work Proseal engineers should be consulted.
6.1 Safety
There is a legal obligation upon the user to ensure the machine is in a safe condition before
embarking on any maintenance task, and to ensure all electrical and pneumatic supplies are
effectively isolated.
At frequent regular intervals, and before commencing operation, all guard safety switches, and
emergency stop switches must be inspected and checked for correct operation. Any
malfunctioning or worn parts must be replaced immediately.
