4. Multi Port
(1) Definition of Multi Port
Multi port is multiple serial communication devices for computer making it as multi-user
and multi-device system. If additional port is necessary except 2 standard
asynchronous communication port usually installed computer system, the solution is
lan and asynchronous multitude communication access device (Multi Port). The former
is fast in transmission speed but collision would happen between data owing to
increase of connected devices and users. It drops transmission efficiency suddenly.
On the other hand the latter, multi-port has limit in speed but installation and
maintenance is easy and the cost is economical. It is often used in many applications
including FA field.
(2) Type & Specification of Multi Port Board
There are 8 Port board (MULTI-8J) and 4 Port Board (MULTI-4J) in D/L. Version 5.0
and 5.1 are installed individually in each site. The difference between Version 5.0 and
5.1 is number of DIP switch. 5.0 has 3 (SW1, SW2, SW3) and 5.1 has 2 (SW1, SW2).
The function of DIP switch is to set-up I/O address, IRQ number, etc to make computer
to recognize multi port board.
