Chapter 3
3 Product description
This chapter provides information on the special features and properties of the LMS laser
measurement system. It describes the construction and the operating principle of the
device, in particular the different operating modes.
Please read this chapter before mounting, installing and commissioning the device.
3.1 Delivery
The LMS delivery includes the following components:
Section 10.3 “Ordering information” on page 95 provides an overview of the systems
available and the accessories available.

• operating instructions “LMS500/511 Laser measurement system” in German and
English as PDF
• freely available software “Adobe

The latest versions of the publications and programs included on the CDFROM are also
available for download at www.sick.com.
3.2 Device variants
The LMS comprises four components:
• the housing
• the sensor head with the opto-electronic acquisition system
• the application module, this defines the functionality of the LMS
• the system plug with the configuration memory (the system plug contains all electrical
connections)
