The communication between OM (Operating and Monitoring system) and the AS
(Automation system) is done via the so-called Plant bus
The internal communication within OM is done via the so-called Terminal bus
The engineering system ES 680 is used for configuring both systems: OM and
AS. For this reason it is connected with both Plant and Terminal bus
All the communication paths are part of the LAN: the Local Area Network
Communications to an external WAN (Wide Area Network) is possible via so-
called gateways
