Cleaning
1. Dry dirt can be readily blown off with low-pressure air or brushed off.
2. Wetness or wet dirt on the covers indicates battery acid. Using a nonmetallic
brush with flexible bristles, wash it off with a strong solution of baking soda
and hot water (1 lb. of soda to gallon of water). Continue until all fizzling
stops, which indicates that the acid has been neutralized. Then rinse
thoroughly with clear water. DO NOT get any of the solution into the battery
cells.
Battery electrolyte is poisonous and dangerous. It contains
sulfuric acid. Avoid contact with skin eyes or clothing. Wear
rubber gloves and safety glasses while servicing batteries. DO
NOT INGEST!
Batteries produce an explosive gas when charging. DO NOT
SMOKE, produce an open flame or spark while checking or
servicing a battery.
