•EnsurethatthesupervisorpasswordhasbeensetinThinkPadSetup.Otherwiseanyonecanchangethe
settingsforthesecuritychip.
•IfyouareusingClientSecuritySolution,handlethesecuritychipbydoingthefollowing:
–Donotclearthesecuritychip.Ifyoudo,thefunctionsassignedtothekeyswillbeerased.
–Donotdisablethesecuritychip.Ifyoudo,ClientSecuritySolutionwillnotwork.
•Ifthesecuritychipisremovedorreplaced,oranewonehasbeenadded,thecomputerwillnotstart.You
willhearfourcyclesoffourbeepseach,oryouwillseeerrormessage0176or0192.
•Ifthesecuritychipisinactiveordisabled,theClearSecurityChipoptionwillnotbedisplayed.
•Whenyouclearthesecuritychip,turnoffyourcomputerandthenturnitonagainafteryousetthe
securitychiptoActive.Otherwise,theClearSecurityChipoptionisnotdisplayed.
Noticeondeletingdatafromyourstoragedrive
Someofthedatastoredonstoragedrivemightbesensitive.Handingyourcomputerovertosomeoneelse
withoutdeletingtheinstalledsoftware,suchasoperatingsystemsandapplicationsoftware,mighteven
violatelicenseagreements.Besuretodeletedatastoredonthestoragedrivebeforeyoudisposeof,sell,
orhandoveryourcomputer.
Youcanusethefollowingmethodstodeletedatafromthestoragedrive:
•MovethedatatotheRecycleBin,andthenemptytheRecycleBin.
•Deletethedata.
•Formatthestoragedrive,usingthesoftwareforinitializingit.
•UsetherecoveryprogramprovidedbyLenovotobringthestoragedrivebacktothefactorydefault
settings.
Theseoperations,however,onlychangethefilelocationofthedata;theydonotdeletethedataitself.In
otherwords,thedataretrievalprocessingisdisabledunderanoperatingsystemsuchasWindows.The
dataisstillthere,eventhoughitseemstobelost.Thus,itissometimespossibletoreadthedatabyuseof
specialsoftwarefordatarecovery.Thereisariskthatpeopleofbadfaithmightreadandmisusethecritical
dataonthestoragedriveforunexpectedpurposes.
Topreventleakageofdata,itisimportantthatyoudeleteallthedatafromtheharddiskdriveorhybriddrive
whenyoudisposeof,sell,orhandoveryourcomputer.Youcandestroythedataphysicallybysmashingthe
harddiskdriveorhybriddrivewithahammer,ormagneticallybymeansofstrongmagneticpower,thus
makingthedataunreadable.Butitisrecommendedthatyouusethesoftware(payware)orservice(pay
service)developedforthatpurpose.Theprocessmighttakeseveralhours.
