Thetractionswitchisanormallyopenproximityswitch.Thisswitchis1ofthe
severalinputsfortheTEC.Theswitchisattachedtothehandleassemblyswitch
mountbracket(Figure103).
Whenthetractionengagementleverisnotengaged,theheadoftheboltinthe
tractionleverispositionedawayfromthetargetendofthetractionswitchso
thattheswitchisinitsnormalopenstate.Theheadoftheboltinthetraction
engagementleverismovedtowardtheswitchtargetwhenthetractionleveris
engagedcausingtheswitchtoclose.
CheckingtheOperationofTractionSwitch
ChecktheoperationoftractionswitchwiththeInfoCenterontheconsole.With
thekeyswitchintheRUNpositionandtheInfoCenterinthediagnosticsmenu,
choosetheTractionandensurethattheswitchstatechangesasthetraction
leverisappliedandreleased.Furthertractionswitchtestingisnecessaryonlyif
theswitchstatedoesnotchangewhenusingtheInfoCenter.
TestingtheTractionSwitch
1.Parkthemachineonalevelsurfaceandplacethetractionleverinthe
NEUTRALposition.TurnthekeyswitchtotheOFFpositionandremovethe
keyfromthekeyswitch.
2.Disconnectthebatterypack;refertoConnectingtheLithiumBatteryPack
(page5–7).
3.Removetheconsolecoverfromthehandletogetaccesstothetraction
switch(Figure102).
4.Disconnectthetractionswitchconnectorfromthemachinewireharness.
5.Connectamultimeter(ohmssetting)acrosstheswitchconnectorterminals
tocheckthecontinuityofthetractionswitch.
6.WiththetractionleverintheNEUTRALposition,thereshouldnotbecontinuity
(inniteohms)acrosstheswitchterminals.
7.Checkthattheswitchcloses(zeroohms)asthetractionleverisengaged.
8.Replacethetractionswitchifnecessary.
RemovingandInstallingtheTractionSwitch
1.Disconnectthetractionswitchfromthemachinewireharness.
2.Removethe2washer-headscrewsand2locknutsthatmounttheswitchto
theswitchmountbracketonthehandle(Figure102),andremovetheswitch
fromthemachine.
Note:Forproperoperationoftractionswitch,thescrewsandlocknutsused
tosecuretheinterlockswitcharestainlesssteel.Ifthesefastenersare
replaced,ensuretousecorrectfasteners.
3.Positionthetractionswitchtotheswitchbracketandsecurewiththe2
washer-headscrewsand2locknuts(Figure102).
4.Adjustthetractionswitch;refertoTractionSwitch(page5–35).
Note:Ensurethatthelocknutsaresecurelytightenedafteradjustment.
5.Connecttheswitchtothemachinewireharness.Securetheconsolecover
tothehandle.
6.Connectthebatterypack;refertoConnectingtheLithiumBatteryPack
(page5–7).
