Asthedrumshaft(item2inFigure36)anddifferentialassembly
areremoved,ensuretoretrieveandnotethelocationofthethrust
washerforassemblypurposes.
5.Pushthedrumshaftoutofthedifferentialassembly.Ensuretolocateand
retrievethethrustwasher.
6.Slidethedifferentialassemblyfromthelongspurgearanddrumdrive
housing.

7.Ifnecessary,slidethelongspurgearfromthedrumdrivehousing.Inspect
thestraightbushings(item5inFigure36)inthelongspurgearforwearor
damage,andreplacethebushingsifnecessary.
8.Theballbearingthatsupportsthelongspurgearispressedintothedrum
drivehousing.Ensurethatthebearingisingoodconditionandispressed
fullytotheshoulderofthehousing.
InstallingtheDifferentialAssembly
1.Ifthelongspurgear(item23inFigure36)wasremovedfromthedrumdrive
housing,slidethegearintotheballbearinginthedrivehousing.
2.Ifthespurgearassemblywasdisassembled,assembleasnecessary(Figure
38):
A.Pressanewballbearingfullyontothespurgearifremoved.
B.Pressanewangebushingintothespurgearifremoved.
C.Ifthehexshaftwasremovedfromthespurgear,applyLoctite#242(or
equivalent)tothethreadsofthehexshaft.Installthehexshaft(left-hand
threads)intothespurgear;torquethehexshaftto95to108N∙m(70
to80ft-lb).
3.Ensurethatthedifferentialhousingcavityispacked20%to30%fullofhigh
temperatureMobilXHP-222grease(orequivalent).Slidethedifferential
assemblyintothedrumdrivehousingandontothelongspurgear.Ensure
thatthespurgearproperlyengagesthedifferentialgears.
4.Placethethrustwasher(item4inFigure36)ontothedrumshaft.Insertthe
drumshaftintothedifferentialassembly.Ensurethatthedrumshaftproperly
engagesthedifferentialgears.
5.Installthetractiondrumstothemachine;refertoTractionDrums(page4–27).
6.Installthedrumdrivebelttothemachine;refertoDrumDriveBelt(page
4–21).
7.Connectthebatterypack;refertoConnectingtheLithiumBatteryPack
(page4–3).
