MAINTENANCE
Belt
The Grunt EVO uses a Gates® belt drive design allowing for a much quieter
ride.
Unlike chain drives, which require very frequent cleaning, tightening, and
maintenance, belt drives are relatively maintenance-free. They run clean as
they don't have to be lubricated.
CAUTION Belt drives are designed for minimal friction. The use of
lubricants can potentially damage the belt and will void any manufacturer
warranty.
Belt Care
We recommend inspecting the belt before and after every ride. Proper
inspection, care, and maintenance ensure the health and longevity of your
belt.
Inspection
The following are suggestions for inspection:
Rotate the rear wheel to inspect the belt, and look for debris stuck in
the profile of the belt or for impaled objects. NOTE: if an object has
penetrated/pierced the belt, it must be replaced.
Review the belt and look for heavy wear via flange [Item 6, Fig. 7]
contact. NOTE: the flange profile shape can be seen worn into the
side of the belt. The belt should be replaced.
Check measurements to ensure the belt is within the tension limit.
Inspect sprockets for heavy wear or dulled profiles. NOTE: If
sprockets are heavily worn or causing damage to the belt, they must
be replaced.
