2 Installing the Detector
This chapter describes the procedures for selecting the site for installing the
detector, unpacking and inspecting the instrument, installing fuses, and
connecting plumbing components.
2.1 Before you begin
Requirement: To install the 2414 RI detector, you should know how, in general, to
set up and operate laboratory instruments and computer-controlled devices and also
how to handle solvents.
Before installing the detector, ensure that
the required components are present.
none of the shipping containers or unpacked items are damaged.
2.2 Unpacking and inspecting
The detector’s shipping carton contains, besides the detector, these things:
Certificate of structural validation
2414 RI detector
2414 Refractive Index Detector Overview and Maintenance Guide (this
document)
•Startup kit
Release notes
Warning: To avoid electric shock, do not access the instrument inside
the top cover. All required access is through the front door where the
fluid connections are located (see “Connecting tubing and attachments”
on page 39).
Warning: To avoid injury, Waters recommends that two people lift the
2414 RI detector.
