2.4 Storing Drives
This section describes conditions and environments for short- and long-term storage of uninstalled drives and installed
drives with no power applied.
NOTICE: When storing the drive, be sure to observe the precautions explained in this section. An incorrect storage method could
result in damage to, or failure of, the drive.
u Short Term Storage of Drives
n Time Frame
Storage of up to one month after unpacking or up to three months after shipping.
n
Surrounding Environment
Secure a storage environment that satisfies the conditions cited for the drive’s installation environment. (refer to
Installation Environment on page 42.)
u Long Term Storage of Drives
n Time Frame
Storage of more than one month after unpacking or more than three months after shipping.
Note: Contact your Yaskawa representative or the nearest Yaskawa sales office in advance if long-term storage is required.
n Surrounding Environment
Secure a storage environment that satisfies the conditions cited for the drive’s installation environment. (refer to
Installation Environment on page 42.)
Note that an ambient temperature of up to 50°C is acceptable for long-term storage of installed drives with no power
applied.
Store the spare parts without unpacking them. Refer to Storing Spare Parts on page 208 for details on the storage
method.

Preparing a Drive for Storage
Storing an Installed Drive
Cover the entire drive with two layers of sheeting at least 0.1 mm thick as protection from dust and water droplets.
Completely seal the bottom of the drive with sealant to prevent moisture and dust from entering the drive.
Protect every corner of the drive with shock-absorbing materials to prevent the sheet from tearing.
Storage in a Warehouse
Refer to Figure 2.51 before storing the drive in a warehouse long-term, and take the following precautions:
Cover the entire drive with two layers of sheeting at least 0.1 mm thick as protection from dust and water droplets.
Protect every corner of the drive with shock-absorbing materials to prevent the sheet getting broken.
Roll in the sheet under the bottom of the drive so that the drive will not absorb moisture from the floor.
Do not place the drive directly on the floor. Place the drive on several 50 to 100 mm square wooden beams. Place the
beams as shown in Figure 2.51 so that the entire bottom of the drive is evenly loaded.
Place the drive in the orientation indicated in the dimension drawings. Do not place it on its side or stack drives.
Prevent the drive from scratches and other damage from external impacts.
Insert color-changing silica gel into drive openings to absorb moisture. As a guide for appropriate quantity, use 1 kg per
cubic meter. Replace the silica gel dessicant every three months. The time period for which the silica gel remains
effective differs depending on the ambient humidity.
Replace the silica gel every three months. Note, however, that the period the silica gel remains effective differs
depending on the ambient humidity.
Prevent the drive from falling by providing adequate support.
The drive is not compatible with outdoor storage.
