RECOMMENDED FIRE ALARM LOCATIONS
IntheUnitedStates,thisequipmentshallbeinstalledinaccordancewiththeNationalFire
AlarmCode,ANSI/NFPA72,(NationalFireProtectionAssociation,BatterymarchPark,Quincy,
MA02269).Printedinformationdescribingproperinstallation,opera tion,testing,
maintenance,evacuationplanning,andrepairserviceistobeprovidedwithsmokedetectors
andalarms.

TheNationalFireProtectionAssociation’s(NFPA)Standard#72recommendsthefollowing
placementforsmokedetectors:

rningfiredetectionisbestachievedbytheinstallationoffiredetection
equipmentinallroomsandareasofthehousehold.Theequipmentshouldbeinstalledas
follows:
•Installasm
okedetectoroutsideeachseparatesleepingarea,intheimmediatevicinity
ofthebedroomsandoneachadditionalstoryofthefamilylivingunit,including
basementsandexcludingcrawlspacesandunfinishedattics.
Alsoin
stallsmokedetectorsinthelivingroom,diningroom,bedrooms,kitchen,
hallway(s),finishedattics,furnaceroom,utilityandstoragerooms,andattachedgarages.

A smoke alarm should be located between the sleeping
area and the rest of the family living unit.

area, a smoke alarm should be provided to protect
each sleeping area.
