1
Setting up a management station.
You can manage the Internet Firewall from a Web browser
application using the Web management interface. You can
manage the Internet Firewall from any computer
connected to the same network as the Internet Firewall.
Any computer used for management is referred to as a
management station
.
Make sure that you use a Web browser that is:
Java-enabled
supports HTTP uploads, for example, Netscape version 4
or above, or Internet Explorer version 4 or above.
If the browser does not support HTTP uploads, you cannot
use certain features, such as updating the software and
uploading pre-configured settings.
The Internet Firewall has a default IP address,
192.168.1.254 (my.3com.com), which you use to access it
when you set it up initially. During this initial setup, your
management station must have an IP address in the same
subnet as the Internet Firewall. For example, set the IP
address of the management station to
192.168.1.200
.
For more information about changing the IP settings for
the management station, see the
Internet Firewall Quick
Start Guide
.
Write down the existing IP settings (IP address, subnet
mask, router or default gateway) of the management
station before changing it. Once you have initially set up
the Internet Firewall, change the management station back
to its original IP settings.
