- When adding o il , do not let oil drip onto hot
engin e components. The re could be ri sk of a
fire.

You must secure the cap on the oil filler
opening correctly so that oil does not leak
out onto the hot eng ine and exhaust system
when the eng ine is running, because this is
a fire
hazard.
- Always clean skin thorough ly if it comes into
con tact with engine oil.

- The oil level must not be above the @
range, because th is can cause damage to
the catalyt ic converter or the eng ine. Con-
tact an authorized Audi dea l er or author iz ed
Audi Ser vi ce Fac ili ty to have excess oil ex-
tracted if necessary.

Do not mix any additional lubricants i nto
the engine oil. Damage ca use by such addi-
tives is not covered by the war r anty.
@ For the sake of the environment
- Oil should never ente r the sewer system or
come into contac t with the gro und.

Pay attention to legal r equirements when
dispos ing of empty oi l containers.
Changing the engine oil
We recommend that have your oil changed by an
authorized Audi dealer or a qualified service
sta-
tion.
Before you check anyth ing in the eng ine compart-
ment, alw ays read and heed all WARNINGS
~page236.
The engine oil must be changed according to the
in tervals specified in your Warranty & Mai n te-
nance booklet. This is very important bec ause the
l ub ric at ing propert i es of oil diminish gradually
during normal vehicle use.
Under some ci rcumstances the eng ine o il should
be changed more frequently . Change oil mo re of-
ten if you drive mos t ly short dist ances , ope rate
the vehicle in dusty areas or un der predomin a nt ly

stop - and - go traff ic conditions, or have your veh i-
cle where temperatures remain below freezing
f or extended periods.
Deter
ge nt add itives in the oi l will make fresh oil
l
ook dark after the engine has been running for a
short time . This is normal and is not a reason to
change the oi l more often than recommended .
Becau
se of the pr oblem of prope r disposal, along
with the specia l tools and necessary expertise re -
quired, we strongly recommend that you have
your o
il changed by an authorized Audi dealer or
a qualified service stat i on.
If you choo se to change your oil yourself , pl ease
note the following important information:

To reduce the risk of persona l injury if you
must change the eng ine oil in your vehicle
yourself:
-
Wear eye protection.
- To reduce the risk of burns from hot engine
oil, l et t he engine cool down to the touch.
- When r emov ing the oil drain plug wi th your
fingers,
stay as far away as possible. Always
keep your forearm parallel to the ground to
help prevent hot oil from running down your
arm.
- Drain the oil i nto a container designed for
this purpose, one large enough to hold at
least the tota l amount of oil in your engine.
- Engine oil is poisonous. Keep it well out of
the reach of children.
- Continuous contact with used engine o il is
harmful to your skin. Always protect your
skin by washing oil off thoroughly with soap
and wate r.
CD Note
Never mix oil additives with you r engine oil.
These additives can damage your engine and
adverse ly affect your Audi Limited New Vehi-
cle Warranty.
